Purple & Gold Tulips, Ashland University

Painted beside Founders Hall on the campus of Ashland University. This was mostly painted on site in the evening. When it got too dark to see I stopped and finished it in the studio. I did this right before graduation a couple weeks ago. I took out a large tree that wasn’t doing anything for [...]

TR 1524 Farm, Ashland, Ohio

Went out a few evenings ago and completed this painting. The trees caught my attention while driving down the road and then the little out building became the focus with its aqua colored roof. I still need work on the way I handle trees, that’s for sure. But each time out is another practice session [...]

Insanity

I had the opportunity to paint this past Saturday with the Ohio Plein Air Society group in Athens Ohio. I chose a location outside of the left field wall of the Ohio University baseball field looking across the river at the old insane asylum turned museum. It was a great sunny day with a high [...]

Virtual paintout in Stavanger, Norway

The Virtual Paintout for the month is in Stavanger, Norway. Using Google Street view, you find a place to paint and go at it. Great idea and fun especially during winter months. I would much rather be on location but this is still good practice. Available for sale. Contact me if you are interested.

South Street

I was supposed to be going to Columbus for a paintout with the Ohio Plein Air Society, the group that I belong to that provides opportunities to paint with others that share my passion. Because of the big snowstorm, i didn’t try to drive down there. Instead, after digging myself out I went downtown Ashland [...]

Muzzleloader Season

DSFDF Portrait Challenge

This is a portrait done for the Different Strokes From Different Folks web challenge. It’s always interesting to try something new. I have not done a full portrait painting since I was in college quite some time ago. Enough said. This was a lot of fun and I hope I came close to capturing her [...]

Township Highway 1335

This is the same barn as I had painted before. It is a very cool barn so I decided to go back and paint it again with the fall color all around. I actually left work early one day last week to go paint this in plein air because it was such a great day. [...]

OPAS, Lakeside Competition

Last weekend was the OPAS Plein Air Competition. I ended up doing 5 paintings. I had a great time painting but was not real happy with all my work. I wish I would have relaxed a little more and just tried to complete a couple really good paintings instead of the quantity of work that [...]
